Two of our skilled employees spent four days at a preschool in Sesto Fiorentino. During this time, our employees mentored budding artists on how to turn their creative ideas into reality. Specifically, our employees suggested various techniques and materials to use in the creation of the child’s art.
Pilot Project: Ciara Nursery School
During the 2008-2009 school year, our workshop participated in AlreMani’s exchange program titled “Diversity, Creativity, and Confrontation”. In this program, our staff members that possessed a background in therapy, worked with kindergarteners at Ciara Sesto Fiorention (FI). This was a four part program in which the children expressed themselves through art (i.e., painting, paper mâché). Our staff members mentored these children on techniques, ideas, and artistic expression.
Results
This program resulted in educating teachers, children, and families on matters of diversity, disability, ecology, sustainability, and the recycling of materials. It is AlteMani’s hope that this program will promote a social model of integration and solidarity in the lives of the children and their families.
It is our belief that the pilot project at Ciari can be applied to other age groups. Although increasing awareness in our youth is important, there is a need to spur discussions about social justice with the older generations as well. Through workshops in schools, community centers, public lectures, associations, and clubs we believe that the surrounding communities will be positively affected.
